Abstract: This research paper explores strategies legal administrators of small law firms use to attract and retain experienced employees to enhance firm-wide performance and competitive advantage. The study draws on a comprehensive review of relevant literature and semi-structured interviews of six successful administrators from six small law firms in Washington, DC, to offer insightful recommendations to improve employee retention rates. Through the thematic data analysis, three major themes were identified: (a) leadership engagement, (b) flexibility through work-life balance, and (c) data analysis. A key recommendation was that small law firms use data analytics to monitor and address retention trends to sustain a competitive advantage. The implications for a positive social change included the potential for continued law firm growth and increased employment opportunities in the local communities.
